TAMBORO, que na língua do povo ingaricó quer dizer: “para todos sem exceção”, é um filme de Sergio Bernardes que está concorrendo na Premiére Brasil do Festival do Rio na categoria documentário. O filme conta com importantes depoimentos de pensadores brasileiros como Leonardo Boff, Rose Marie Muraro, Aziz Ab´Saber, Ailton Krenak, Seu Jorge e anônimos que formam um Brasil multicultural, criando um tecido de depoimentos e imagens reverente à natureza, e amoroso com o habitante dessa terra. O filme traz uma necessária e atual reflexão sobre nosso país, uma edição emocionante, do próprio Sérgio, que gravou separadamente os sons das cenas filmadas, e música do maestro Guilherme Vaz.
Como poucos brasileiros, Sergio Bernardes filmou o país e o seu tempo. Foram anos de livre pensar o cinema. Temas como diversidade cultural, meio ambiente e ecologia são palavras-chave da poética bernardiana e paradigmáticas dos tempos atuais. O planeta está se dando conta de que a natureza é vulnerável e passível de ser irremediavelmente destruída. Em TAMBORO, último filme do cineasta, que morreu prematuramente em 2007, Sergio tratou destas questões cruciais, criando uma obra absolutamente singular e única no cinema nacional.
Para Sergio Bernardes, a questão não é nem ecológica nem sociológica, mas civilizatória. A dificuldade de pensar o Brasil é não se perder entre uma natureza sagrada e uma sociedade mutante. Temos que estar à altura tanto da sociedade como da natureza brasileiras, saber olhá-las no que elas têm de singular. As imagens do Monte Roraima e dos Lençóis Maranhenses provocam uma estupefação diante do sublime. Palavras não bastam. Como lidar com estes templos de pureza sem tomá-los como meros colírios ecológicos? Como pode um país possuir intocadas estas matrizes originais de um mundo pré-diluviano junto com as mais graves deformações urbanas e sociais? Para além da relevância temática e da profunda atualidade da obra, a forma como Sergio faz cinema rompe as fronteiras da linguagem documental, tradicionalmente assentada em uma ordem do pedagógico-histórica. Em TAMBORO, a história do país é contada com uma intensidade independente da narrativa, do envolvimento com a trama. Tamboro, meaning “for all, no exceptions made” in the language of ingaricó people, is a film by Sergio Bernardes which is a contestant in Première Brasil section of Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival in the documentary category. The film takes account on important testimonies of brazilian thinkers such as Leonardo Boff, Rose Marie Muraro, Aziz Ab’Saber, Ailton Krenak, Seu Jorge and anonymous people who form alltogether a multicultural Brasil, creating a tissue of testimonies and images as reverential to nature as loving to this land’s inhabitant. The film brings a needed and atual reflection on our country, touching editing, made by Sergio himself - who recorded separately sounds from the recorded scenes - and music score composed by maestro Guilherme Vaz.
Like few brazilians, Sergio filmed the country and his times. Years of freethinking Cinema. Paradigms of these days and also keywords of the Bernardes poetics are themes like cultural diversity, environment and ecology. The planet is realizing that nature is vulnerable and can be irretrievably destroyed. TAMBORO was the last film of the filmmaker, who died prematurely in 2007. In the film, Sergio was concerned with these crucial issues, thus creating an absolutely unique work in modern brazilian cinema.
To Sergio Bernardes, the issue is neither ecology nor sociology, but civilization. The difficulty of thinking Brazil is not to lose oneself between a sacred nature and a mutant society. We have to measure up both to brazilian society and nature, and we have to know how to recognize them in what they have in their singular ways.
The images of Mount Roraima and the Lençóis Maranhenses awaken an astonishment in face of the sublime. Words are not enough. How to deal with these temples of purity without taking them as mere ecological eyedrops? How can a country possess untouched these original matrices of a pre-diluvian world altogether with the most severe urban and social distortion? Beyond the thematic relevance and the profound importance of the work these days, the manner of Sergio filmmaking breaks the boundaries of documental language, traditionally set in a pedagogic-historical order.
In TAMBORO, the history of the country is told with an intensity which is free from the storyline and the involvement with the plot. Sergio Bernardes filmmaking incites our look to images instant as well as to its movement. It touches the audience and invites us to freely ponder about Brasil.
